A Few Weeks of Color Each Spring

Tulip Proposal in the Netherlands

A tulip proposal in the Netherlands can happen on a working tulip farm, among long rows of flowers, or at Keukenhof, the landscaped spring garden in Lisse. The two feel quite different.

Tulips only bloom for a few weeks each year, usually between April and early May, so this is a proposal you plan with the calendar in mind. We help you compare the options side by side: how busy each setting tends to be, what kind of photos it gives you, and how much styling it allows. Whether you're starting from Amsterdam or elsewhere in the Netherlands, you can focus on your partner while we work out which setting suits you.

Compare Our Tulip Experiences

Two tulip proposal packages are compared on this page. The Tulip Field Proposal takes you to a real flower farm, with a public farm or a private farm option, while the Keukenhof Proposal is set in the famous spring gardens. Both package pages include the full details and their own booking form. Custom and on-request ideas follow further down.

Beyond the City

Where to Propose With Tulips in the Netherlands

Tulip farms and Keukenhof sit outside Amsterdam, so a tulip proposal usually means a short countryside trip. Couples who prefer to stay in the city can ask about tulip ideas closer by.

Guidance, Not Guesswork

How We Help You Decide

Comparing tulip settings is easier when someone helps you weigh up what each one offers. Here is how we help you narrow things down and turn an idea into a plan.

Some couples want one sweeping field of color, others prefer paths, ponds and changing displays. We ask what matters most to you, then point you to the setting that delivers it.

Your partner’s personality shapes the plan as much as the flowers do. Someone who loves attention may enjoy a bold gesture in a busy garden, while a more private person might feel happier somewhere quieter. We talk it through with you before suggesting anything.

Setups go alongside a tulip field rather than among the flowers, and Keukenhof allows only small touches. For fuller styling ideas elsewhere, see our romantic proposal setups.

Both tulip packages continue with an engagement photoshoot, so the first photos of your new chapter are taken while the flowers, the light and your emotions are still fresh.

Send us your dates and a rough idea, and we suggest options that fit. Packages are booked through their own pages, while custom ideas are checked with the venues and suppliers involved before anything is confirmed.

Honest Answers

The Questions Tulip Season Raises

Planning a proposal during tulip season comes with a few uncertainties that a city proposal simply doesn't have. Nature sets part of the schedule, other visitors share the space, and the setting is outside town. These are the three questions worth settling first.

On working farms, tulip season generally runs from mid-April into early May, while Keukenhof’s later tulips can bloom from early April. Either way, weather decides the exact timing, so no date can be promised.

That depends on the setting you choose. Keukenhof welcomes many visitors in spring, and public farms are open to others too. The private farm option within the Tulip Field Proposal is far quieter.

A spring day out to see the tulips is an easy plan to suggest without raising suspicion. We can help you think through the story you tell beforehand.

Words From Couples We've Planned For

Proposing somewhere unfamiliar takes trust, especially when the flowers keep their own timetable. These reviews come from couples we planned for, shared here in their own words.

Ways to Book

Packages, Extras and Custom Ideas

The two tulip packages are the most straightforward route, as each is booked through its own page. If you would like to change part of a package or bring your own idea, there is room for that. The options below separate what is fixed, what can be requested and what we design with you.

Pick the Tulip Field Proposal or the Keukenhof Proposal and book through its package page. The public or private farm choice is made within the Tulip Field package.

Each package lists the extras available with it, and these differ from one package to another. Check the package page, or ask us whether a particular addition is possible.

Like one of our existing proposals but want to change part of it? Keep the setting and structure you like, and we adjust the pieces that don’t fit your story.

Maybe you already picture something none of our packages covers. Describe it, even roughly, and we design a custom tulip proposal around your idea from the very start.

Some combinations, such as tulips on a canal boat, are not fixed packages. They are available on request and depend on the season and what our suppliers can provide.

For custom and on-request ideas, we check with the suppliers involved first, so you know what is possible before anything is booked or paid for.
Public Tulip Farm

Out in the Open Fields

The public farm is the classic way to experience the Tulip Field Proposal. You propose on a real, working farm among the tulips, with other visitors sharing the fields around you. It suits couples who want that open, colorful landscape and don’t mind a little company nearby. For how the day actually unfolds, from arrival to photos, the Tulip Field Proposal page gives you the full picture before you decide.

Within the Tulip Field Proposal

The Private Farm Option

Within the Tulip Field Proposal, the private farm option gives you a field booked exclusively for your proposal. There are no other visitors, which makes it the natural choice if your partner would feel self-conscious with strangers watching. A few people connected to the farm may still be around, so expect quiet rather than complete solitude. It is not a separate package, so you simply select it when you book the Tulip Field Proposal itself.

Keukenhof Gardens

Keukenhof, a Garden Made for Spring

Keukenhof is a landscaped garden rather than a farm. Curated flower beds, winding paths, ponds and trees give your proposal and photos several different backdrops within one visit, with everyone staying on the paths. The gardens draw large numbers of visitors in spring, and full decoration isn’t permitted inside, although small touches may be possible. Weigh up whether variety or seclusion matters more to you. The Keukenhof Proposal page covers timing and photography in detail.

Available on Request

Tulips on the Water, Amsterdam

Not everyone wants to leave the city. Our boat proposal on the Amsterdam canals is an existing experience, and adding tulips to it is something you can ask about. This is not a fixed package. It is an idea you can request, and what’s possible varies with the season and with what our suppliers can arrange at the time. Tell us what you have in mind, and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

What's the difference between a tulip field and Keukenhof?

A tulip field proposal takes place on a real, working tulip farm among long rows of tulips, on a public farm or through the private farm option. Keukenhof is a landscaped spring garden in Lisse with curated beds, paths, ponds and many flower varieties, but it is busier and allows only small decorative touches.

The private farm option within the Tulip Field Proposal offers the most privacy, as the field is booked exclusively for you, although a few farm staff may still be nearby. Public tulip farms are open to other visitors, and Keukenhof is a popular attraction, so expect company at both.

No. The private farm is an option within the Tulip Field Proposal. You choose between the public farm and the private farm when you book that package.

On working tulip farms, the season generally runs from mid-April into early May. At Keukenhof, later tulip varieties can bloom from early April into early May. The exact timing changes every year with the weather.

Bloom timing depends on the weather and changes from year to year, so no one can guarantee peak flowers on a specific date. If your dates are flexible, let us know when you get in touch.

We recommend booking around six months ahead. Last-minute bookings are possible, but availability can be very limited because tulip season is such a popular time of year.

What happens if the weather is bad on our proposal day?

First, we try to reschedule if possible, including moving to a different time slot, since spring weather can change quickly. If rescheduling isn’t possible, we can offer a weatherproof backup option in the city.

Yes. We’re happy to create a combined experience, for example Keukenhof and a tulip field, or a tulip setting together with another of our proposal experiences. Tell us what you’d like to combine and we’ll put a plan together.

Of course. Get in touch and we’ll create a special plan around your ideas, with add-ons such as a musician, decoration or video, and we’ll check any other wishes with you.

Yes. Tulips on the water is available on request rather than as a fixed package. Our Amsterdam boat proposal is the base experience, and we can check what is possible for your dates.

Yes. Both the Tulip Field Proposal and the Keukenhof Proposal continue with an engagement photoshoot after the proposal.

The Tulip Field Proposal and the Keukenhof Proposal are booked directly through the booking form on each package page. For custom, combined or on-request ideas, send us a message and we’ll check what’s possible before anything is confirmed.
