Tulip Field Proposal in the Netherlands

A tulip field proposal offers a completely different feel from a garden park like Keukenhof. Here, you're surrounded by real, working tulip fields where the flowers themselves take center stage. We offer two ways to experience this: a public tulip farm, open to other visitors during tulip season, or a fully private tulip farm booked exclusively for you, which costs more but is arranged just for your booking.

At a public farm, arriving early or close to closing time helps you find quieter corners, and we can also guide you a little further into the field to get away from other visitors. A private farm gives you a much more secluded experience, though a small number of people connected to the farm itself may still be around.

Tulip season generally runs from mid-April through the beginning of May, with the best bloom typically around the end of April. Exact timing shifts each year depending on the weather.

Tour Map

The exact location depends on the tulip farm you choose, with both public and private locations available. Use the map below to see the selected farm location and plan your journey.

Among the Real Tulip Fields

Unlike the landscaped gardens of Keukenhof, this puts you among long rows of tulips stretching across open farmland in the Netherlands. You can choose a public farm such as De Tulperij or The Tulip Barn, or one of our private partner farms reserved just for your visit. A proposal setup can also be arranged alongside the field, while the flowers themselves remain protected.

Engagement Photoshoot in the Tulip Fields

After the proposal, continue with an engagement photoshoot among the rows of tulips. Compared with Keukenhof's varied garden compositions, a tulip field gives your photos a more consistent look, with the same flowers and long rows of color creating the backdrop. Walking between the tulips is allowed, but we'll guide you carefully through the field to avoid damaging the flowers and bulbs.

Best Time for a Tulip Field Proposal

Tulip season generally runs from mid-April through the beginning of May, with the best bloom typically around the end of April, though exact timing shifts each year depending on the weather. Golden hour, the hour or so before sunset, tends to give the softest light for photos among the tulips, while an early morning visit works well if you'd rather have fewer people around at a public farm.

Public or Private Tulip Farm: Which Is Right for You?

A public tulip farm is a good choice if you'd like to experience a working flower farm and don't mind the possibility of other visitors nearby. A private tulip farm offers a more secluded experience, with the time arranged exclusively for your proposal, though a small number of farm staff may still be present. The best option depends on how important privacy is to you and the kind of experience you'd like to create.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

What's the difference between a tulip field proposal and Keukenhof?

Keukenhof is a landscaped garden park with curated flower displays, while a tulip field proposal takes place at a real, working tulip farm, either a public farm open to other visitors, or a fully private farm booked exclusively for you.

At a public tulip farm, yes, other visitors are possible, though coming early or close to closing time helps, and we can also guide you a little further into the field to get some distance from the crowds. A private farm is booked just for you, so it feels much more secluded, though a small number of people connected to the farm may still be around.

Yes, considerably more so than a public farm, and it costs more because the time and space are arranged specifically for your booking. A few farm staff may still be nearby, but you won’t be sharing the field with other visitors the way you would at a public location.

We can’t set anything up directly among the flowers, but we can arrange a setup just alongside the field. Let us know what you have in mind and we’ll see what’s possible.

Yes, you can walk among the tulips, but carefully, so the bulbs aren’t damaged as you move through.

Which tulip farms do you work with?

We work with well-known public farms such as De Tulperij and The Tulip Barn, and we also partner privately with additional farms that aren’t publicly listed, where we can arrange a fully private setup exclusively for your proposal.

This depends on which farm and package you choose. You’ll find the details in the booking form.

Golden hour, the hour or so before sunset, tends to give the softest, warmest light for photos among the tulips. Earlier in the morning is also worth considering if you’d rather have fewer people around than the best possible light.

Tulip season generally runs from mid-April through the beginning of May, with the best bloom typically around the end of April.

The public farms we work with, like De Tulperij and The Tulip Barn, are both around 30-45 minutes from Amsterdam, reachable by car, taxi, or train with a short local transfer. If you’re booked at one of our private partner farms, we’ll share the exact location and best way to get there once your proposal is confirmed.
